TCNJ’s Math & Stat Teams All Place in Top 10 at GSUMC

The Tenth Annual Garden State Undergraduate Mathematics Conference (GSUMC) was held on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Felician College in Lodi, NJ. There were both team and individual mathematics competitions and a student poster competition, as well as student oral presentation sessions, two keynote speeches, and a 10th anniversary celebration banquet.There were three teams from TCNJ’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics who participated in the team mathematics competition. Our teams did very well, all of them placing in the top 10 out of 26:

Team 1 – Dave Linkletter, Mike McLoughlin, DanSeminara placed 4th

Team 2 – Vince Longo, Alana Huszar, Benjamin Castor placed 5th

Team 3 – Ryan Mannheimer, Elizabeth Sweeney, David Picolella placed 8th

Rutgers University and the University of Scranton tied for first place.

In the individual competition, Vince Longo placed 5th, and David Picolella, Dan Seminara and Ben

Castor tied for 6th place. This was especially gratifying since, with the exception of David Linkletter, none of our students had ever competed at GSUMC before.

In the poster competition, Senior Kayla Coleman received an “Outstanding” qualification for her poster. She was one of only three to receive this highest ranking.
