Statistics Capstone Presentations

As part of their STA 498 Capstone Experience, students are required to give a 15-minute presentation on the life and contribution to the field of statistics made by a statistician of their choice.  Looking at historical sources gives them experience in conducting searches and reviews, and by choosing and expounding on a particular figure it gives them an appreciation for how the field of statistics had revolutionized science during the past 100 years. It also brings to life people whose names they might only know through formal tests of significance, e.g. the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test now “comes to life” through the personages of Kolmogorov and Smirnov. We have even had 2 students visit the Guinness Brewery in Ireland where  W. Gosset produced his famous t-test!

Anyway, please come along to support these students if you can, and to learn about their chosen figures.
