After being selected as a 2016 Goldwater Scholar, Senior Applied Mathematics major, Rebecca Santorella ’17, has been awarded a prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship for 2017. These awards are highly competitive, and are awarded in fields that students will continue to study in graduate school. The 2017 Fellowship selection process was very intense, with over 13,000 applications submitted. Of those 13,000 applicants, 2,000 individuals were selected for awards. Rebecca was one of 3 awardees in TCNJ’s School of Science, which also included Physics major Em Schnorr and Chemistry major Tanya Townsend. A 4th TCNJ student, Psychology major (and Statistic minor), Shirley Bao Wang, rounded out the current TCNJ students who also received a fellowship this year.
About NSF’s Graduate Reseach Fellowship Program:
The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions. Fellows receive a three-year annual stipend of $34,000 along with a $12,000 cost of education allowance for tuition and fees.
