Welcome to Our Newest Faculty Member, Dr. John Nardini!

The TCNJ Department of Mathematics and Statistics is delighted to welcome our newest faculty member, Dr. John Nardini. Dr. Nardini will join the TCNJ family in August.
Dr. Nardini obtained his BS in Mathematics from North Carolina State University (NC State). Here, he first developed his interdisciplinary background when he worked on undergraduate research projects involving mathematical biology. Eager to learn more about how math can be used to understand biology, he then pursued his PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado at Boulder. John worked under the supervision of Dr. David Bortz and wrote a PhD dissertation on deriving and analyzing partial differential equations models of the wound healing process. While in graduate school, John participated in a peer scholars group on metacognition, which he broadly defines as “thinking about thinking.”
After obtaining his PhD in 2018, John held a joint postdoctoral position at NC State and the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI), where he focused on several applied mathematics techniques, including agent-based modeling, topological data analysis, and equation learning. He was a fellow in the Mathematical Association of America’s Project NExT in 2020, where he has been working on incorporating active-based learning and projects into his courses.
In his spare time, John can often be found running, reading, and cooking. He learned how to make his own yogurt, granola, and almond butter in 2020. He is now working to perfect his own homemade bread and pizza.
