The Department of Mathematics and Statistics mourns the passing of Dr. Siegfried Haenisch ’58, an esteemed alumnus and Emeritus Professor who passed away on March 29, 2026. A pillar of the TCNJ community for decades, Dr. Haenisch’s legacy is defined by his profound dedication to pedagogy and the history of mathematics. After earning his B.S. from Trenton State College in 1958, he returned to serve as a Professor and eventually as the Interim Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. A prolific author of widely used mathematics textbooks, his excellence in the classroom was recognized nationally with the 1995 Mathematical Association of America’s Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics. Beyond his administrative and scholarly achievements, Dr. Haenisch is remembered by colleagues and generations of students for his gentle spirit, his passion for leading educational trips to Saudi Arabia, and his unwavering kindness. He will be deeply missed by the entire TCNJ family.
