On Wednesday, October 22, the School of Science held its 2014 Celebration of Women in Science. This event celebrated the accomplishments of women students in TCNJ’s School of Science and served to encourage them to continue their work. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics was very well represented at this event. Associate Professor of Mathematics Jana Gevertz was one of the TCNJ Alumni and Faculty who gave an oral presentation. In addition, Math & Stat alumni Jennifer Urban ’12 (now a Ph.D. student at the University of Rochester) and Alexa Beshara ’08 (now the Associate Dean of Research and Planning at Hudson County Community College) participated in a panel discussion on “The Personal Side of a Career in Science.” After the lunch break, School of Science students had a chance to present posters on their research. The department had three exceptional presentations:

Jessica Perez – “Continuous and Discrete Modeling of Tumor Growth and Invasion” – Faculty Mentor: Dr. Jana Gevertz, TCNJ
Department of Mathematics & Statistics
Alana Huszar – “4-equitable Tree Labelling” – Faculty Mentors: Dr. Chamont Wang, TCNJ Department of Mathematics & Statistics and Zsuzsanna Szaniszlo, Valparaiso University
Katarina Rose – “A Function of the Moduli Space of Triangles” – Dr. Andrew Clifford, TCNJ Department of Mathematics & Statistics
Thanks to everyone who participated, and special thanks and congratulations to our exceptional students. We are very proud of you!
