Majors

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers the following majors:

  • Mathematical Sciences: This major allows students to take a wider variety of courses outside of mathematics and to have more opportunities for interdisciplinary studies. Graduates earn a BA in Mathematical Sciences.
  • Mathematics: Mathematics: This major is a Mathematics major with a Specialization in Mathematics. Graduates earn a BS in Mathematics with a Mathematics Specialization.
  • Mathematics: Applied Mathematics: This major is a Mathematics major with a Specialization in Applied Mathematics. Graduates earn a BS in Mathematics with an Applied Mathematics Specialization.
  • Mathematics: Data Science and Statistics: Graduates earn a BS in Mathematics with a Data Science and Statistics Specialization.
  • Mathematics: Secondary Education: Graduates earn a BS in Mathematics Secondary Education. This includes Special Education.
  • Mathematics: Teaching – Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Deaf & Hard of Hearing, Special Education, and Urban Education: Graduates of the bachelor’s program in these areas earn a BS in the corresponding area (i.e. a BS in Early Childhood Education). Mathematics Teaching is a secondary major, but as these are dual majors (which is different than a double major), graduates do not earn a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
  • Seven Year Medical/Mathematics: Students earn a BS in Mathematics and an MD at the completion of the seven-year program.
