Students Honored at Annual Mathematics & Statistics Department Awards Dinner

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics held its annual Student Awards Dinner on April 26th, 2013. After a buffet dinner, the evening’s events began with a speech by Dr. Christopher Manno ’98. Dr. Manno was was named New Jersey’s 2013 Superintendent of the Year by the New Jersey Association of School Administrators (NJASA).

After Dr. Manno’s speech, there was a very entertaining Pi Mu Epsilon induction ceremony, presided over by Dr. Daniel Fong and Dr. Judit Kardos. Pi Mu Epsilon is a national organization dedicated to the promotion of mathematics and recognition of students who successfully pursue mathematical understanding.

This year’s inductees were:

Elizabeth Yacone
Megan Zungoli

After the induction ceremony, the department’s chairs, Dr. Cathy Liebars and Dr. Thomas Hagedorn, began the awards ceremony. The award recipients are selected by a vote of the faculty who consider not only grades, but also the level of difficulty of courses taken and the quality of the contributions made to the department. These awards are significant honors which are earned only by the most deserving students.
