The mathematics specialization of the mathematics major is appropriate for students who do not wish to specialize within a specific area of mathematics or who wish to focus primarily on pure mathematics. With this specialization, students have the opportunity to study all areas of mathematics from pure mathematics to applied mathematics. The Undergraduate Bulletin contains the official list of major requirements. However, students will meet all their requirements by completing the major requirements listed below and in the checklist, meeting the department’s retention and GPA requirements, and completing TCNJ’s College Core requirements. Options (6 units)
Students complete an additional 6 course units by taking courses of their choosing. Five of these must be chosen from among all MAT courses numbered 300 or above, to include at least two courses numbered between MAT400 and MAT480. The sixth course may be an additional MAT course numbered 300 or above, or may be a course from the following list:
BIO 471/CSC 471, CHE 372, CSC 335, CSC 445, FIN 360, PHY 401, or STA 410.
Students may count at most one course unit of independent study, guided study, or independent research (MAT 39x/49x) as one of the six course units.
